Employee Assistance Programs

Covenant employees are what make the health system function on a daily basis. Sometimes employees may need help functioning during a difficult period of time as well, and Covenant is there to lend a hand.

There are two main means of assistance for Covenant employees: the Covenant Assistance Program (CAP) and Covenant Compassion.

Covenant Assistance Program

The Covenant Assistance Program provides an opportunity for Covenant employees and/or their dependents to address and remedy personal problems. All employees are encouraged to participate in any of the programs that would assist them to improve and/or grow personally or professionally.

Counseling services are available in the event an employee's job performance has been seriously impaired by what is perceived to be personal problems. The employee may be referred to the Counseling services component of CAP by their immediate supervisor, manager or director. Counseling services include:

  • Stress in the home or workplace
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Marital, divorce or family problems
  • Personal and/or family concerns
  • Child/elder care problems
  • Parenting (children/school concerns)
  • Grief and loss
  • Gambling
  • Drug abuse
  • Alcohol abuse
  • Eating disorders

All information will be held as confidential to the extent reasonable and practical under the circumstances. The employee's supervisor, manager or director will be informed only of the employee's attendance, level of participation and completion of counseling when it is a mandatory referral. For more information about the Covenant Assistance Program, call (806) 785-5151.

    Covenant Compassion

Covenant Compassion's purpose is to provide financial assistance and/or South Plains Food Bank vouchers to employees in accordance with Covenant Health System's values, philosophy and mission to serve, to the extent possible, those in need and/or confronted with emergency situations where no public assistance is available. Employees are eligible for assistance from the program after having successfully completed the trial/introductory period (such as 90 days) of employment.

Assistance may be rendered in several ways:

  • South Plains Food Bank voucher
  • Employee loan that is repaid through payroll deductions
  • Non-repayable grant to an employee

Employees in need of assistance from Covenant Compassion should call PBX at either campus at (806) 725-4404, the Department of Spiritual Care at (806) 725-0427 or (806) 725-6690, the Sponsorship Office at (806) 725-0260, or the Nursing Office at (806) 725-4301 or (806) 725-6792 to find out the staff member on call for Covenant Compassion. Employees then make an appointment with that staff member for an interview to assess the situation and determine what type of assistance is needed.

Only the Covenant Compassion staff member and employee applying for assistance will be privy to any information regarding the situation; however, on occasion, a supervisor, manager or department director may be contacted.
